Scott Wiley BA, CD
Scott grew up in Brandon Manitoba and was involved in board settings early, as President of the Brandon University Students’ Union and a member of Brandon University’s Board of Governors. After graduation he served as an Executive Assistant to a Member of Parliament, where he enjoyed working with many non-profit community groups, providing support to constituents and managing the member’s offices and staff.
He became a very active member of the Kinsmen Clubs of Canada, and served on the board of a local seniors’ complex, and became an executive member of the Dakota Community Center.
After leaving government service he worked as a communications director and event planner for a local non-profit group and then joined the Winnipeg Police Service and later the Armed Forces.
As an Intelligence Officer in the Army Reserve he developed valuable planning skills and mastered Microsoft Office products. As a Platoon Commander and Training Officer he managed the training and administration of his platoon and taught, and served as the Standards Officer on several national courses. He excelled as an exercise planner, participating in the planning and execution of over sixty exercises, and received a Commander’s Award for his work.
As a proud member of the Winnipeg Police Service his career has focused on working with community groups and Winnipeg’s North End schools. He developed a local youth cadet program, which on its completion saw over 2000 youth learn citizen and leadership skills. He served as a missing person detective, a report reviewer and coordinator of a program called the Strategic Policing Initiative.
Scott has been recognized by his peers and supervisors, both the WPS and Canadian Forces as someone who gets things done, and has received several commendations and awards, including the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Medal.
Scott spent close to 25 years coaching high level hockey, and in 2015 he was hired by the St Vital Minor Hockey Association as their Execute Director. He no longer coaches but now manages the association’s business affairs and the St Vital Arena. He retired from the military in 2014, and from the WPS in 2020. He now wishes to continue his work in helping non-profit groups and small business reach their full potential.
